Overview

EA SPORTS is one of the most recognised names in sports entertainment, but it needed a mobile home to match. As part of the product design team at Two Circles, I worked as Senior UI Designer on the EA SPORTS App, a new platform bringing fans closer to live scores, stats, news, and exclusive content across multiple sports.

Over the course of a year on the project, I worked across nearly every area of the app including Onboarding, News feed, Athlete and Team pages, Scores, Profile, and Play (games and quizzes) as the product evolved from early builds to a fully-featured platform.

The Challenge

Building a sports companion app from the ground up means solving complexity at scale. The app needed to serve multiple sports and content types: live scores, editorial, community, gaming tie-ins, within a single coherent visual system, all while remaining fast and focused in the moment of a match.

A recurring challenge was designing within real-world constraints: licensing restrictions meant certain visual approaches weren't viable, and any idea that leaned too heavily on graphic complexity risked failing to scale across the breadth of content and sports the app needed to support. Navigating this meant finding solutions that were visually distinctive but disciplined enough to work everywhere the app needed them to.

My Role

Designed high-fidelity, UI in Figma for both iOS and Android, following platform-specific conventions

Built and maintained design system components using auto-layout, variants, and interactive components to support scalable, dynamic design across the app

Designed iconography and the visual system underpinning the app, ensuring consistent application of branding typography, colour and icons, across all screens

As the project evolved, I worked directly with EA's leadership team on design direction beyond the standard agency-client structure

Worked within strict legal and licensing constraints, designing visual solutions that balanced creative ambition with scalability across content types

Beyond core UI, I designed partner branding integrations for major content partners including the Premier League, Goal.com, and LaLiga — broadcast and media organisations supplying content to the app. This work supported partner monetisation and lead generation, requiring designs that balanced each partner's brand identity with the app's own visual system.

Process & Contribution

I operated as an embedded member of the product team, attending daily standups, weekly design reviews, and sprint ceremonies. As the project matured, moved into closer day-to-day collaboration with EA directly. This shift gave me exposure to stakeholder dynamics and decision-making not always visible to agency designers, and sharpened my ability to advocate for design thinking directly with client leadership.
